Hello everyone!
Following on from our video and recipe for potsticker dumplings, we had loads of requests from lovely people for a vegetarian alternative.
So we donned our thinking caps and had a good ol’ brainstorm about what would make the perfect vegetarian dumpling. For starters it would have to be *sublimely* tasty, the kind of tasty that even meat-eaters wouldn’t be able to resist. We also wanted to develop a filling that was nutritionally balanced and super satisfying, something that combined protein with veg like our original pork and bok choy recipe.
After playing around with a few ideas we finally hit upon the jackpot: five-spiced vegetable and tofu!
You might be familiar with the flavour of five-spice powder if you’ve tried its most famous dish, Chinese roast pork belly with crispy crackling. We absolutely love it and we’re always looking for new ways to use it in our cooking.
In our vegetarian dumpling filling, five-spice does a great job of seasoning the tofu for a real flavour punch. Just add some colourful veg and crisp water chestnuts for texture and you have one seriously scrumptious vegetarian filling! Not only is this a fab filling for potstickers, it’s also wonderful in soup wontons. Give it a whirl!
